Why I Dove Head First into Profit First

An old boss of mine mentioned the book Profit First to me over 7 years ago. Sadly, I didn't read it then. It took another 5 years before I actually downloaded the audible version and listened to it as I drove between clients. I listened to the entire book in 3 days. The idea of it was so simple that it was foolproof.

There was only one issue… I’m an accountant.

I’ve been trained to track numbers, read the numbers, and build financial reports with those numbers. Profit First cash flow methodology doesn’t exactly follow GAAP, and it hurt my brain. I had to work through the differences and see how everything tied together.

But at the heart of it all, Profit First makes sense because it works for entrepreneurs. And that is what matters.

Within a week of finishing the book, I had an interview to become a certified Profit First Professional. It made too much sense to add this tool to my toolbelt as a business strategist.

Since then I have jumped in feet first and have loved incorporating Profit First cash flow methodology into my client’s companies.

Tune in for part two next week, where I’ll share a little bit of how I got Profit First Certified and the methodology behind it. If you’re even the least bit curious, don’t wait seven years, like I did. In fact, go download the first five chapters for free here!

Have a great Wednesday!
